Two brothers, identified as Lucky and Uzoma Amadi, have been arrested by the Imo State Police Command for the alleged killing of their elder brother, Orindu Amadi, in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred in Umuokpi kindred, Umuchimanyiri village, Obazu Mbieri, and has left residents of the community in shock.
OkeomaNews reports that police officers, including the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Mbieri Division, intervened on Tuesday to rescue the suspects from angry youths who had descended on them following the discovery of the alleged crime.
According to eyewitnesses, community youths compelled the suspects to exhume the remains of their elder brother from a shallow grave within their family compound, where he was allegedly buried in an attempt to conceal the act. The remains, said to have decomposed significantly, were recovered before the arrival of the police.
The police subsequently took custody of the suspects, recovered relevant exhibits, and evacuated the remains of the deceased from the compound.
One of the suspects, a tricycle operator, told OkeomaNews that the deceased had allegedly been responsible for their father’s death several years ago, a claim yet to be verified by authorities.
Community members also alleged that the suspects had initially deceived villagers by claiming that their elder brother had travelled, in order to cover up his disappearance.
As of the time of filing this report, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Command, DSP Henry Okoye, had not issued an official statement on the incident.
Meanwhile, residents of the area have called on the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that justice is served in the matter.
