Governor Hope Uzodimma has urged members of the Imo State Judicial Service Commission to uphold integrity, unity, and fairness in the performance of their responsibilities within the judiciary and the state at large.
The Governor made the call on Friday, February 20, 2026, during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed members held at the Government House in Owerri. He stressed that the survival of democracy depends largely on a “committed and independent judiciary,” encouraging the appointees to regard their positions as a sacred responsibility.
The newly sworn-in members are Hon. Lady Mercy Mgbechi Anyanwu (Chairman), Barr. Louis Alozie (member), Prof. John Ukazu Njoku (member), and Barr. Benneth Amukamara (member).
“Authority is entrusted to us by God. I encourage you to do what is right before God and in service to the people.”
Governor Uzodimma explained that the law establishing the Judicial Service Commission aligns with democratic ideals and is designed to reinforce the justice system in Imo State.
He described the inauguration of the Commission as a significant milestone in promoting fairness, accountability, and adherence to the rule of law.
According to him, every arm of the state’s governance requires deliberate strengthening, noting that the judiciary plays a pivotal role in maintaining public trust in government institutions.
His words: “You have been appointed today to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves and to guide the system in the collective interest of our people.”
The Governor further encouraged the Commission members to work in unity and remain steadfast in their duties, emphasizing that their actions and decisions must embody justice, equity, and service to humanity.
Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Barr. Louis Alozie thanked Governor Uzodimma for the confidence reposed in them, describing the appointment as a “call to integrity, honesty, and strict adherence to the oath of office.”
He assured that the members would not be influenced by social media sentiments or external pressures but would instead be guided by their conscience and the law.
Referencing past controversies within the Imo State judiciary, he pledged that the Commission would “reverse the narrative” by ensuring fairness and delivering decisions that can be defended before God and man.
He further assured both the Governor and the people of Imo State that the Commission would live up to expectations.
Dignitaries present at the event included the Deputy Governor, Lady Chinyere Ekomaru; the Acting Chief Judge, Justice Ijeoma Agugua; former Governor Chief Ikedi Ohakim; the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Cosmos Iwu; the Chief of Staff, Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie; the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Paul Obinatu; members of the judiciary and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA); as well as members of the Imo State Executive Council.
